Written Directions

North of Hudson, Fl about 5 miles go left on Aripeka Road. Then as you head back east take Left on Shoals Line Blvd (County Road 507). Take this north up to the end at Cortez Blvd.

Scenery

Starts out driving through the Aripeka Sandhills area and winds through the grass flats along the Gulf and past the crystal clear Weeki Wachee Springs. Bring a suit if you want to cool off in summer and then have a bite to eat at The Upper Deck

Drive Enjoyment

Nice roads with speedlimits varying from 30 to 40 MPH and offering good visibilty of the local scenery and a couple small slow bridges.

Tourism Opportunities

I suggest a stop a Bayport inn for more food at the end of the route.

I have done this ride with my father and friends several times. It is a great scenic route that makes you feel like you are in the Florida Keys even though you are turning off a US Highway 19N There are some great turns and straight aways. There is one stretch that is directly adjacent to the gulf that is absolutely beautiful. Near the end of the trip the "upper deck", which sits on the weekie watchee river, is a great restaurant bar to grab a bite to eat. If you pass the upper deck headed north you will dead end into Cortez boulevard. Make a left and Bayport inn will be a few miles up on the right and is another nice pitstop to grab a bite to eat. After you eat make sure drive down to the end and visit Pine island. Im not sure why that wasn't included on this trip. This is worth the trip and the only negative is you maybe wishing it was longer.

This is a good ride and very close to my home in Hudson Beach. I would suggest you head west on Cortez Blvd and check out that road to the end, there is a nice park at Bayport for fishing or boating and then head up to Pine Island on Pine Island Dr to spend some time at the beautiful beach there.

Not the longest ride but as I believe others have said, but the scenery is pure native Florida! For the adventure touring folks, you can start the route at FL52 to Old Dixie Highway which turns into a decent dirt road just south of Aripeka rd. Stop off for one and a bite at The Drunken Mullet in Hernando Beach, great little place and it's on the water!
