Written Directions

Starting on Old San Jose Rd. in Soquel, CA head to Summit Rd(North). turn left and go to Hwy 17 merge onto 17 North a couple miles. Exit Bear Creek Rd. Wind back over freeway and head up the hill on Bear Creek Rd. This will take you all the way to the town of Boulder Creek. Turn Left onto Hwy 9. Take Hwy 9 into Felton. Turn right onto Felton Empire Grade. At the top turn Right on Empire Grade and go about 2 miles, turn left onto Pine Flat Rd. Pine Flat will turn into Bonny Doon Rd. which you will follow out to Hwy 1. Turn left and head back to Santa Cruz. Hope you Have Fun.

Scenery

You will be cruising through the mountains. At the top of bear creek you can sneak a peek of the valleys below. This route passes directly through or right next to about 5 parks so you know the scenery has to be good ... Ana Jean Cummings Park, Forest of Nisene Marks State Park, Lexington Reservoir County Park, Henry Cowell Redwood State Park, and finally Wilder Ranch State Park.

Amenities are out there if you need them. But it's only 60 miles or so, so you won't be doing much stopping

Motorcycle Type : Adventure Touring
This is a nice route that I ride often as a local. It’s a bit crowded with cars and houses and some businesses, but it’s a nice way to spend a couple hours on my bike. I wouldn’t go out of my way to ride it, but if you’re local it’s a good time and you probably already know about it.

If I were you, I'd just take the 17 from San Jose, down to Santa Cruz, onto the 1 then up Bay Street and finish the route. The Summit Road-Soquel/San Jose rd isn't that great. There is just too much traffic on those roads, and too many houses opening into the road.

That aside; Bay road, and back up North is great. Stop in Boulder Creek for lunch. Have a blast on the 9 back to the 17. That's where the fun is. Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere for a good day out.
