Turn right at Mission Rd and continue thru the outskirts of town to a right at Olive Hill Rd which becomes Burma Rd after a right bend. Turn Left on Sleeping Indian and follow it to the T at River Rd where you turn right. Turn left on Vandegrift/River and then left again at College. Take College up through the low hills to Carlsbad Village Dr which goes down to Carlsbad and Pacific Coast Highway ending in the town of Carlsbad, CA

Scenery

This route covers a rise from the freeway up and through the Cleveland Forest then down a very steep hill to winding roads through orchards and ranches on through the city of Fallbrook to more hilly winding roads to Carlsbad on the coast. This road is suitable for all bikes but is best enjoyed at a leisurely 40-50 mph

Drive Enjoyment

No dirt or gravel though sometimes rough pavement in a few spots, very windy in spots and lots of hills

Tourism Opportunities

Most of this route is pure country and no amenities until you reach Fallbrook

First, unfortunately, the ride in the description is not the same as what the map shows. The description starts on Clinton Keith, but the map starts further south on De Luz from Guava. for those who don't know the area, if you look at the map were the start shows in Murrieta and follow Washington to the northwest, you'll find Clinton Keith next to the Bear Creek Golf Club just after Washington turns into Palomar.

I ride the route from Clinton Keith practically everyday to work and back. The only difference is that I take S. Mission in Fallbrook all the way to the 76 and then take that directly to work. I have, occasionally, taken Olive Hill Rd to 76, but didn't know I could get to College from there. I'll have to try that the next time I'm not late for work (ha!)

The steep hills were a bit worrisome, at first, and the turns on those hills are off-camber. You shouldn't need too much brake if you just keep it in 2nd, lean back and take it slow.

The Santa Rosa Plateau is quite beautiful, especially on a clear night. Speaking of nights on the Plateau, it can get chilly up there, even in summer, and almost guaranteed to be foggy the last mile before you get to the first steep hill (leaving Murrieta into De Luz)

Have a great ride and be safe.

This is an awesome route. I may have deviated slightly, though, from the description. It started with beautiful hilly country in Murrietta then went to steep and curvy terrain, which suddenly dropped you into orchards prior to Fallbrook. I wish I had a camera or GoPro at the time because it was so picturesque.

North east side of this road is currently gravel and pretty difficult, but you can take RANCHO CALIFORNIA RD instead which is really not out of the way. Lots of twists and turns and hills and beautiful sights. Very few cars except on the south end where walmart is.
