Take College up through the low hills to Carlsbad Village Dr which goes down to Carlsbad and Pacific Coast Highway ending in the town of Carlsbad, CA

Scenery

This route covers a rise from the freeway up and through the Cleveland Forest then down a very steep hill to winding roads through orchards and ranches on through the city of Fallbrook to more hilly winding roads to Carlsbad on the coast. This road is suitable for all bikes but is best enjoyed at a leisurely 40-50 mph

Drive Enjoyment

No dirt or gravel though sometimes rough pavement in a few spots, very windy in spots and lots of hills

Tourism Opportunities

Most of this route is pure country and no amenities until you reach Fallbrook

In the description of the starting point. You are at I-15 and Clenton Keith. There is no junction of I-5 and I-15 at that location.

Amazingly scenic ride. I went exactly as the instructions mentioned (15 to Clinton Keith). The initial road there is beautiful, scenic and well maintained. Nothing too technical. Once you get to the drop its a bit crazy and steeper than I expected but not pants-wetting. Once down, the roads are in great shape but there are residences here so there are driveways to keep an eye out for. Traffic is very light but the first part has some hills that you won't be able to see over. Once onto De Luz it becomes breath taking. The roads are a little rough in places but it looks like they've been filling in some of the gaps with fresh asphalt. I did notice a few patches of dirt that came into the middle of the lane on both sides (closer to Fallbrook) and there are lots of trees which overhang, creating a canopy and occasionally dropping small branches or debris into the road. Still, well worth the ride!

The last bit of this ride is the most fun (farther away from ocean). The closer you get the ocean the more stop and go it gets. The end of it goes through some nice twisty roads surrounded by orchards... lots of dips and twists. Connect this ride with the road that runs along top of the hills over looking Temecula and it's pretty cool. Not sure I go out of my way to do this ride though.
