Motorcycle Road Length: 175 Miles
Highway 335 ... often called "The Roller Coaster"
Motorcycle
Road Scenery:
A
ride through this part of Texas will most certainly change
your view of my beloved state. You will ride amongst scenery
as good as it gets, along clear rivers, through very twisty
mountain type curves amidst real Texas Ranches. With million
dollar vistas and cool clear waters along with friendly
folks and knowing that you are riding the best this large
state can offer, makes for great riding...
Nueces River (pronounced New-Aces) on Ranch Rd 335
Motorcycle
Road Quality:
This
route is mainly very twisty passing over large hills and
between not many gas stations. This roller coaster ride
will no doubt blow you away. The road is not heavily traveled,
but beware as sharp turns have certainly taken many motorcyclist
down. Also, although the surface is mostly in very good
condition, always watch for loose gravel, deer and slow
moving locals heading back to their ranch ... often a much
slower pace than we're zippin by at.
Frio River just outside Leaky, (pronounced lay-key) on Ranch Road 337.
Just after having gone through the Twisted Sister from Vanderpool (contributed

On Ranch Road 337 just prior to hitting Vanderpool(contributed

Huge ranch just north of Campwood on Ranch Road 335(contributed

Motorcycle
Roadside Amenities:
This
route isn't going to be know for its "Roadside Amenities"
as much as it is known for its scenery and road quality.
There are some very nice pull-outs, stop and enjoy the long
vistas. Gas up in Leakey as there are not too many gas stations
to choose from and where there is a very good motorcycle
shop. For a refreshing summertime swimming hole try the
Frio River (frio meaning cold!!!).
Note
from a recent MotorcycleRoads.com visitor about this route:
"Hwy 16 between Kerrville and Bandera is not for beginners!
Due to recent accidents, weekend police patrol has increased
a great deal. Hwy 173 may be a better route between Kerrville
& Bandera."
Directions:
From
Kerrville,
heading south on Texas 16. At Medina you'll need to catch
RR337 heading west (right). Take RR337 west until you come
up on the town of Leakey. At Leakey, go north on US 83 for
a just about a mile and look for RR336 on the left. Take
a left onto RR336 which will head you north. Continue north
on RR336 until you meet Texas 41 and at this point you will
want to turn left in order to head west. Go west for 15
miles or so and you will find RR335 on the left. Take a
left and get on RR335 where you can finish out the rest
of this great ride.

Just returned from riding the three sisters May 8th, 2009 on a Valkyrie. Loved the ride. There were three of us. The weather was perfect. Rodes are great and well paved. Definitely plan to ride this route again.
I rode the 3 Sisters the past weekend (Feb. 27 -29, 2009. The only way to describe this is "Breath Taking!" No construction evident, plenty of gas. Be sure to stop in Leaky at the Biker Stop. Plenty of curves, elevation changes and 41 is a good place to "see what you got" so to speak. I will return within 3 months. This is a ride and a place one who loves riding, scenery and all around beauty will never tire of. Be safe. "
Me and two buddies rode twisted sister on 5/17/08, about 5 miles of 337 is still tow-up just before Leakey. Koyote Ranch in Medina is a great meet and start and stay place. The best ever! You won't regret it. We gona do it again real soon. Matter a fact, One of my buddies went back to Leakey this weekend, from Houston just because he forgot a T-Shirt. Now....if that don't impress you I don't know what will.
I rode this with a group of 27 bikes in November of 2007. It was an absolutely breath taking ride. My V-Rod loved the turns and the scenery was incredible. I highly recommend this as a weekend ride for single or group riders. True that on the stops so load up your saddlebags and definately fuel up in Leakey.
I am not a motorcyclist. I drive a BMW 335i and drove down last New Years eve from DFW area to drive RR335. Just wanted to say I respect that bikers will be on this road but if you see a car, please understand this road is great for us automobilists too.
Being a winter Texan I have ridden the "Three Sisters" at least five times a year for over ten years now. Having ridden in about 30 diffwerent states I rate the "Three Sisters" right at the top with all of my favorit rides. I just cant get enough of those three highways, especially the "Roller Coaster" 335, and the 16 mile stretch between Leaky and Vanderpool that we call the "Twisted Sister"
Rode the 3 sisters Friday and Saturday October 17th and 18th 2008. What a great ride, the scenery is fantastic. The cattle guards do take away from the ride but not bad. Just slow down a little. Do be careful in the twisties. Our ride captain went down on Saturday. He came over the top of one of the hills to find the road made a sharp right turn. He went off the road and crashed. He will be ok, broken femur and a bruised ego. So be careful and enjoy what I think is the best riding in Tx.
As of the end of September 08, 337 is still under construction for the last 2 miles into Leakey. The rest is great. It is passable, but go slow. Loose gravel. All of the rest of the sisters is in fine shape, and one should not fear the cattleguards. Just slow for them. Camp Wood is a great ending place, or starting for that matter. Gas and food available in every town you come to. Fall is the time to do this!

Been there, rode that! The three sisters rocks!! I've been riding for just a few years and once I got down here and took this trip, I finally knew experienced what 2 wheels and a great motorcycle road can do - riding bliss! Best ride in Texas hands down and one of the best in the entire US.

Talk about a great Texas motorcycle ride - this is it!
The 3 sisters do not disappoint. A world class route known by most Texas riders as the best the state has to offer and one of the best in the country. Hills Country at its best!!"
The ride isn't complete until you go from Camp Wood back to Leakey. This is a beautiful ride but be careful from sight seeing because there are lots of hairpin curves.
We rode the three sister the week of Aug 1 2008. It was awesome we plan on coming back and bringing friends with us.I have never imagined there was such beautiful scenery in Texas
This ride is on my top five for Tx. But since I'm coming from Houston, I don't think I'm going to waste my time on 41 or 336 next time - just up and down 335 and 337. 336 is simply a death wish since cattle and deer freely meander accross it not to mention those damn cattle guards.
Caution: 337 between Vanderpool and Leakey is under repair as of 4/08. 6-8 miles of hard packed dirt. However, if still under repair, you can check a map and drop down at Vanderpool or Leakey, and take another route to pick back up on the remainder of 337. Maybe the best ride in Texas: the Three Sisters (335, 336, 337)
Rode the Three Sisters two weeks ago (1 Jun 09). Awesome vistas with breathtaking sierras and valleys all over. There are various river crossings at multiple points. Needless to say that the Roller Coaster (335) and the Twisted Sister (337) are exhilarating but very dangerous at the same time, not the type of road trip for beginners or easily distracted folks. Coming from Comal County, the ride was a full day affair. I look forward to one day doing it again !!!
Went to the Hill Country March 7-12, 2009. I drive an 883 Sporster HD. Stayed @ D’Rose. The weather turned on us. It was cold & raining. Thank God for no accidents. We had a great time despite the cold & rain. We will defiantly plan another trip to the Hill Country to ride the Three Sisters again, only next time in dry conditions so that we can challenge our bikes and ourselves. The roads will give you a run for your money & not to mention the views of the hillside as an extra bonus.
Took this ride on my Wing this Sept. 08 and found it to be everything I expected. The scenery is absolutely spectacular. The two sisters that are made up of 337 and 335 are the most challenging. Be aware of possible gravel in sharp turns and rocks fallen onto the road. Do not make this run at night , you can't see the deer in the road! If you are an experienced rider and you haven't run the Sisters, you haven't run the best that Texas has to offer!
I will return within 3 months. This is a ride and a place one who loves riding, scenery and all around beauty will never tire of.
Be safe.
