Quality:
Twist and turns, leading to places that have MORE twist and turns. Another nice thing about this run is when you complete it, you are close to another couple of great mountain runs in the area - Skyline Drive and The Blue Ridge Parkway. You could get to them by continuing from this ride’s end point (Mount Storm, WV) and get down to Front Royal, VA where you can start heading down (south) Skyline Drive to the end and then pick up The Blue Ridge Parkway in Afton, VA … put this all together and this could be a fantastic weekend of motorcycle riding!

Amenities:
This is a wild ride … at one point has a near 180 degree turn with other tight turns leading to a funky gift story with rustic old knickknack shop about mid way through the run. You’ll pass Cathedral State Park along the way too and could stop there as it’s a nice midway point stop. I suggest you stay at Abrams Creek Camp ground - a great place to be … just past the Highway 50 and WV Route 42 intersection (Near Mount Storm, WV). Look hard or you'll miss the sign. There is a lodge house, camping are, and cozy cabins to stay in all alongside Abrams Creek. This is a place off the beaten path and you'll have a blast staying over for the night.
Get yourself to the starting point/town of Grafton, WV. From Grafton head east on US Highway 50 through the most western tip of Maryland and continuing on to the small WV town of Mount Storm (where Highway 50 and WV Route 42 intersect). .

Concur with the comment from TheNomadRider. 50 is a fun route, but the windmills pictured are actually on 219 (great ride!) and Seneca Rocks is a bit of a haul off the described route (Great ride down and back though!).
This is an incredible and gorgeous stretch of road, especially when the leaves are turning color. But watch out for deer and crazy drivers, both of which are plentiful!
This is a incredible ride. Went from Ohio to DC one week and loved it so much did it a week latter with a few chages and road to Baltimore Md. AWESOME RIDE
This is a great road - several highly technical sections, lots of scenery and generaly light traffic. I have never seen those windmills on US 50 either but its possible i was just too focused on the road! I have seen a bank of these windmills on US219 just a few miles south of the intersection of US50.
The "rock formation seen along the way" is actually 40 miles south of Mt Storm - Seneca Rocks. Also, I know that there are windmills on Backbone mountain in Tucker County but as far as I know, you can't see them very well (if at all) from US 50. Someone taking this route and expecting to see these scenes is going to be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's a great ride - you just won't see the scenery depicted in the description.
