Tennessee Motorcycle Roads and Trips

Tennessee (TN) is home to a remarkable array of scenery specializing in lush forests, abundant bodies of water, and breathtaking mountains and resulting in some truly great motorcycle rides. The Volunteer State also offers lively cities and towns with rich histories and colorful amenities that draw visitors year round … places like Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, Knoxville, as well as access to the Appalachian mountains and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Note: the motorcycle rides below have been divided into two general regions:
          - Eastern Tennessee (anything east of Nashville)
          - Western Tennessee (anything west of Nashville)

Crossville to Standing Stone to Celina (Dec 07)

… wonderful two lane roads, rolling hills and great fall … see Standing Stone State Park is good place to relax with a walking bridge over creek and decent amenities… some tight switchback roads … lots of nice little towns to stop at along the way … spaced out nicely. Possible places to stop include Crossville, Livingston, Jamestown, Standing Stone State park.

… beautiful country side and ride along the river with views of Lake Norris, Clinch River Tailwaters … museum with an Old Mill and Barn … Savage Gardens has some unique Rock Formations … everything from nice cruising two lane and four lane roads to some very twisty areas

… near the popular Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge. Sevierville, Smokey Mountain National Park … many nice back roads in the area … nice view and parking on top of this dam … the route has it all, easy nice curves, and some more difficult areas that are near switchbacks

.. lots of mountain vistas … ride through part of Frozen Head State Park … watch for coal trucks on weekdays, very twisty and mountain grades … sections of this road have very sharp curves. Be careful!

… this cyclist's dream road connects Robbinsville, North Carolina, with Tellico Plains, Tennessee … no facilities other than restrooms for the entire 40 miles … little evidence of civilization and views that rival or surpass any from the Blue Ridge Parkway!

… one of the most beautiful rides I know of … 27 miles in and 27 out … nothing but mountains and river … rock overhangs and a couple of small bridges … Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Tennessee are right at the entrance to this natural area

… this is probably one of, if not the best rides in West TN … you'll be traveling through thick wooded areas … can stop by Parkers crossroads and see lots of Civil War sites … gas and drinks are not a problem but not much else out there

"The Tennessee Baby Dragon" - Hwy 232 (Apr 06)

… a number of small bridges which cross some attractive creeks … about 75% of your journey will be 'walled in' by hardwoods … 232 is often called the 'Baby Dragon' as it is very curvy like the world famous Deal's Gap run … in the summer, this is a stop for Bike Poker Runs

The road quality factor of each route is rated

Outstanding driving conditions.  Plenty of twists, turns & hills; well maintained roads with smooth pavement.   Straight roads over flat land or rough road conditions with
some potholes or driving
hazards such as gravel

A rating of what there is to do off the bike

Plenty of things to do when it's time to pull over.  (Ex. museums, restaurants, pull-outs, historical sites, entertainment etc.)    Little to nothing to do when it's time to pull over.  (Ex. lack of museums, restaurants, pull-outs, historical sites, entertainment etc.)
