Road Scenery:
|

Beautiful
country farm land with a lot of hills and creeks to cross
over. Some wildlife, like fox, Bluebirds, and one rancher
has a herd of buffalo

Road Quality:
|
|
Good
road with a lot of hills and curves and some straight-aways.
Several side roads to take for a closer look at the lake
and a few state parks to stop off at for a overnight camp
or picnic. Toledo Bend Reservoir is the 5th largest man
made lake in the USA. The speed limit in Louisiana is
55, but in Texas it is 70. LA has the helmet law, but Texas
does not.

Roadside Amenities:
|
|
There
are several small towns to stop off for a snack, fuel, or
to eat. There is a Louisiana welcome center on Hwy. 6 before
you cross back into Texas on Pendleton bridge.

Start
your trip from Merryville,
LA and take US 190 west. Cross the border into Texas
and about 5 miles after you cross the border you will want
to take a right on route 2626 all the way till it T's into
route 87. Take a right on 87 and go 1 mile and take a right
on route 1414. Take 1414 through the town of Stringtown
and continue up to Burkville, TX. At Burkville take a right
on hwy. 63 for only a quarter of a mile and turn left on
route 692 and take it about 13 miles up to Toledo Bend.
There the road changes names to route 191 after you cross
back into Louisiana. Go north on hwy 191 for about 30 miles
until you reach route 6. Take a left on route 6, go about
13 miles (you'll cross back over into Texas) and you'll
reach Milam, TX and want to take a left on route 87. Stay
on route 87 for about 36 miles and you'll be all the way
back to Burkville, TX. Continue on route 87 another 13 miles
and you'll be at the routes end point of Newton, TX. From
Newton, you are at a cross road and the map is yours. This
is about a 5 hour ride that you will enjoy if you like the
piney woods and and hills of east Texas and West Louisiana.
