Motorcycle
Road Scenery:
Awesome,
wetlands. Mixed with some breath taking tree covered
roads. Nice river, and small swamp/marshlands.
Motorcycle
Road Quality:
If
it is the rainy season, expect some water over the road,
if the water table is up. very flat, sharp turns nice and
quiet.
Motorcycle
Roadside Amenities:
The
loop goes through part of Daytona. There are some nice
beach restaurants. I believe there are 2 gas stations
on the loop also. Nice places to stop along the route
and take in scenery.
Daytona,
FL is the place for the "loop". It is a
Daytona Bikefest, and Biketoberfest MUST!
The Loop begins with a northerly trek at
the foot of the Granada Bridge on John Anderson
Drive in Ormond Beach. Going North, riders
are greeted by a cathedral of trees up to
the Highbridge Road where they hang a left
(to go west) and go over the bridge and
the Intercostals Waterway (the Halifax River).
There are several places to stop along the
way and just enjoy the Florida countryside.
After more winding turns, you'll come upon
Walter Boardman road where you will make
a left to take you further west to Old Dixie
Highway. When you reach Old Dixie Highway,
take another left (to go south) toward Ormond
Beach and your starting point at the Granada
Bridge … a perfect 22 mile loop!

The loop is one of the greatest motorcycle rides there is. Your ride begins along the beautiful Atlantic Ocean coming out of Ormond Beach. You then turn into the Tamoka Park to ride the Loop. The road is excellent with twisties and breath taking views of waterways and wildlife. There are areas to stop along the way for breaks and a packed lunch. A nice place to stop and eat at the end of your ride is Caribbean Jacks.
The loop is a fun place to ride- just watch your speed once you get on highbridge! Some of the turns are very tight and several people have lost their lives on the loop...I've gone off into the woods when carrying too much speed into a corner- thankfully i missed hitting anything and just got muddy. If I had gone off on the other side, I would have gone into the river!!

The loop offers some nice views, but as great riding roads go, it's boring. It's mostly straight, getting bumpy roads. There is one part that is maybe 1/2 mile long that is tight twisting road, but if you screw up it's either water or trees, immediately. It is nearly a 30 minute ride from Daytona Beach to the Loop. Overall, I have found much better roads than this one in Michigan. Cruisers will probably prefer it more than sport bikes since it isn't all that curvy.

John did an amazing job with the virtual map tour! It truly is an enjoyable, scenic ride! There is one other way you can enjoy this ride however. If you enjoy more ocean views, you can start out on A1A in Daytona and just continue up towards Ormond staying on A1A. The Atlantic follows you the entire way with some great views of the water/beaches. Then simply turn left onto Highbridge and follow the rest of the directions! Just a small alternative to one great ride!
For all the hype there is surrounding the 'loop', it's pretty crappy even for Florida, and that's saying something. Straight for miles upon miles, and the few turns there are are on a section of the road that's more often than not covered in sand. The road is also way too narrow in this section and features asphalt pushed up by tree stumps.

This is a magnificent ride, the turns and twists in the road are exhilarating, and the scenery is like the best of Florida! I live just off the loop, so I might be a little prejudiced...but it is a fun excitiing ride!

I rode the loop on May 22, 2010 and it is the most scenic route in the Daytona Beach area. Along a majority of the route the road is covered by a canopy from oak, and many other types of trees which helps tremendously to keep cool during the summer heat. There are plenty of straits, curves, and scenery along the entire route; it isn't the longest ride, but it is still one of my favorites!
A nice place to stop and eat at the end of your ride is Caribbean Jacks.
