Title: Adirondack Lake Loop

State: New York

Submitted By: RaWarrior

Date Submitted: Apr 08

Motorcycle Type: 82 Suzuki GS450

Motorcycle Road Length: 90 Miles

"This is a great ride, it makes between +/- 4 hours of riding, and if you're looking to make a day trip out of it, you can stop at Ft. Ticonderoga, or rent a boat on Schroon Lake to go tubing or waterskiing or etc": RaWarrior
Motorcycle Road Scenery:
The scenery on this route is outstanding as you'll be passing through Adirondack Park and along the shoreline of multiple lakes. 9N takes you along most of Lake George, which features beautiful lake views and breathtaking houses. Fort Ticonderoga is worth a stop if you're into history, and 74 to Schroon runs along Eagle and Paradox lake, cutting along some cliffs. Schroon River Rd. gives some nostalgia of old Adirondack life.

Motorcycle Road Quality:

9N is a great scenery road, but it does have rolling curves and a few twisties, though nothing that will push your skills too much. 74 features a long (3mi), fairly steep hill coming out of Ticonderoga. 74 is fairly hilly with rolling up/downs and a few moderate curves. Schroon River Rd. is in good condition but isn't particularly curvy, but it's better than I-87!

Police like to camp at the bottom of the large hill going out of Ticonderoga. If you're doing this loop backwards, ensure you keep your speed in check going down that hill, I believe it's a 55 zone. 74 does have deer that cross the roadway, so at dusk or night be careful.

Motorcycle Roadside Amenities:

If you gas up before you leave, you should be good for the loop, but gas is available in Bolton Landing, and Ticonderoga. There is gas in Schroon village, but that's on the west side and a little out of the way.

Bolton Landing has lots of little shops, and Ticonderoga is steeped in history, the fort has reenactments and shows pretty often all summer.

Schroon Lake features a marina as the far north end (Marina Rd on map) that rents ski and pontoon boats, so you can get out on the water for an afternoon. .

Directions:

Written directions:

Start in Lake George, NY and head north on Canada St(the main drag), Lake George.

-Veer east onto 9N (Lake Shore Drive). Follow 9N through Bolton Landing and Silver Bay, all the way to Ticonderoga. You'll pass a Wal-Mart super center and McDonalds, right before a 4-way.

-Turn left onto 74, and continue for about 20 miles. Right after a large highway depot there will be a 4-way,

-Turn left onto 9. The marina is about 2 miles in, on your left. Otherwise, continue down 9, through the village of Schroon. The deli at Mt. Severance Store is great, and there's a Stewarts for gas in town. After 10 miles on 9,

-Turn left onto Glendale Road in (***) Pottersville. Glendale Road becomes Schroon River Road.

- Complete the loop by continuing on Schroon River Rd to the intersection of 9 in Warrensburg. Turn left here and continue back to Lake George and the route's end point.

LONGER VERSION (this adds a section that allows you to see Brant Lake): After arriving in Pottersville (see *** above) turning onto Glendale Road, continue about 10mi, and turn slight left onto Short St. Then make a left onto Valentine Pond Rd, then make a right onto Pease Hill Rd. Pease Hill becomes Dorset Rd. Then make a right onto Palisades, which runs the length of Brant Lake. Follow this to the intersection on Rt8, and make a right onto 8. Then make a left onto Schroon River Rd. Continue until it intersects with 9 in Warrensburg, make a left onto 9 and continue back to Canada St in Lake George. ENDING on Canada St in Lake George.
