On
this quiet 2-lane road you'll run along the Delaware
Bay coast, passing thru coastal estuaries (the wide
mouth of a rivers into which the tide flows) and farmland.
From start to stop, there are many side roads leading
to the Del River to stop and take great pictures!
It goes from farmlands, to wetlands!
Motorcycle
Road Quality:
2-lane
secondary road, winding thru the country and along
the Delaware shore. Road quality is good, but the
road has very few area's with a shoulder, and a breakdown
could put you in some danger from the many blind curves.
The ride is a blast, however. From the Air
Mobility museum located at the Dover End,
to the view from the Reedy point Bridge as you approach
Del city, you will find a lot of things to catch your
eye, and enough turns and long straights to both challenge
your cornering, and satisfy you need to open it up
a bit. Be on the lookout for farm equipment, and deer!
Motorcycle
Roadside Amenities:
Eat
lunch (spring summer and fall) at Sambo's in Leipsic
Delaware, be sure to stop for a beverage at the Augustine
In (Augustine Beach). Route ends at the Delaware Memorial
Bridge. When you get into Port Penn try Kelly's Crab
house or Crabby Dicks in Delaware City.
Directions:
The
route follows Delaware Route 9 all the way. Start
the in the town of Kitts
Hummock Delaware which is 10 miles south east
of Dover Air Force Base. From there, simple work your
way north on Route 9 all the way up to the Delaware
Memorial Bridge in New Castle Delaware.

Route 9 is a grat ride. Try to ride the northern part of RT 9 on low tide. If the tides are high and the wind is blowing the water will flood over parts of the road at low bridge crossings.

Great ride on RT 9. A little of everything from beginning to end for any level of driver. Mostly enjoyed because there was little traffic for most of the ride. Only negative was the tide was up and I had to run the bike through water that had crossed over the road. Not sure what was in the water but it was heck to clean the rims later because of a residue that was difficult to remove. Overall, highly recommended.

one of my favorites,I ride it daily, its not exactly the P.C.H. but its still a really nice ride, watch out for water on the road when theres been alot of rain and the tides in, if traffics turning around and not going through the water, follow them, theyre most likely taking the dry route!Be safe all!
Rode Route 9 Saturday August 9 with 4 other guys. It is a great road for bikes!! Long stretches with inviting curves, beautiful views of the water, farmland, forests, and some nice switch backs thrown in there. You can’t miss with this road.........
