This
route is excellent for scenery. 99% of the time you'll see
rolling hills for miles, trees galore...

I
named this route 'Nothingness' for a reason. We've never
traveled along this route and well, now that we did...we
found that there is nothing along the route. You'll run
into few itty bitty towns, once in a great while, it may
have a shop or two, maybe a town bar, nothing as far as
restaurants or gas stations until possibly Viroqua (I was
busy scoping out the scenery)so make sure your tank is full
when you start out. When you break from Highway 27 onto
Highway 14 and hit Coon Valley, there's an excellent place
called Porky's...best ribs ever! No gas station but a great
place to eat. From there it's back to nothing until La Crosse...

The
route starts out in Prairie
du Chien, WI..., 35 N is the usual recommendation, but
27 N was the way we went. On 27 you'll head north and
run through towns including Eastman, Seneca, Mt. Sterling,
Fairview, Rising Sun, Liberty Pole and Viroqua. After Viroqua,
you'll enter the town of Westby and want to look for 14.
From there on 14 west and you'll run through Coon Valley,
Shelby and eventually into La Crosse.
