Roadside Amenities:
Not
many towns along the way so amenities are few...a good way
to end the ride is to head west on SR 212 a few miles until
you see a sign for "Leesville Marina" and follow the side
road back to Leesville Lake. There is a Marina there with
a patio overlooking the quietest and scenic Leesville Lake
.
Directions:
Written directions:
Ohio
State Route 164 begins in Youngstown but
the best part of the road begins in the
village of Lisbon,
Columbiana County (which is about 25
miles south-southwest of Youngstown). US
30 passes right through Lisbon in an east-west
direction and SR 164 crosses 30 at the main
intersection in town. Take 164 SOUTH! Road
is well marked but be alert for many turns
at intersections in various towns/villages
and crossroads along the way. SR 164 terminates
at SR 212 in the town of Leesville, Ohio
but if you go west on 212 a few miles is
a quiet lake with a marina and if you go
east on 212 and south on SR 151 then east
on US 250 to Tappan Lake and the Marina
there. Good restaurant...get the Captain's
Burger and an order of fries.....*wink*.
NOTE:
One final caution...especially for my
fellow riders that like to ride
hard and fast this road is NOT good for
that. Many, many blind curves with limited
sight lines...this road is very safe ridden
leisurely and with a little more
attention to these curves.

This road is fun. Not much traffic. Lot's of elevation change. The road signs say curve is 30 mph, but you can take 'em at 70. There are some tar snakes in the area, along with some loose gravel in the center of a few of the turns. One of the tar snakes almost got me powering out of a turn on an up-hill. The rear end wanted to slid out, but then it hit real asphalt again and grabbed. Thanks Lord! I will certainly do this road again. It's a little tighter than rt 9, out of Salem, but the road quality can be unpredictable. The downward-off camber turns can be un-nerving. You could catch some air off of some of the hill tops if you knew it was straight afterwords, but alot of times, theres a turn; so watch out and have fun on this road!

This road proves to be a very twisty and aggressive road. i loved every minute of it! went with about 8 other bikes and everyone came home safe. And it wasn't a slow day either, very few cars to go around. there were a few corners with gravel but visible at a distance. I will be doin this road for awhile now that i have found it.
When in the mood for scenic rides, I use 164 to get South down around Bergholtz. There are MANY remote back roads around Bergholtz that will show you some AWESOME scenery. There is one magnificent spot that brings those distant rolling hills scenes within about 15 feet of you!! Puts a hillside forest right in your LAP. I'll have to get exact directions for some of the back routes and post them on here.
164 from lisbon to rt. 212 near scio is to be treated with respect. this road can and will hurt the reckless and foolish. this was a stagecoach run in the days before cars. make sure the bike has gas, there are very few places to stop and fill up. also watch for critters and possible gravel in the corners. it's a real piece of work to ride fast, but u better know what yer doin; this road wont forgive a major mistake.

Beautiful road in great condition with lots of small elevation changes, blind corners, and scenery, especially if you like pastures and barns, which I do. Along with all those farms however, is the related equipment and even children walking on the other side of those blind hills, so it is definitely not a race track...

164 is a very nice scenic and twisty road. For a great ride from Youngstown, follow Rt. 7 south to Wheeling. Take 250 north-west, through Cadiz, to Tappan Lake. At Tappan Lake use 151 and 212 to catch 164 for the return home. 250 from Rt. 7 to Cadiz adds another 30 miles of twisty road with one hairpin turn that has to be seen to be believed. I agree with the other posters about 164. Not much traffic, and, treat the road with respect. It's a great ride
