Title: East Ohio Border Tour
State: Ohio

Submitted by: Sandman

Date Submitted: Jun 07

Motorcycle type: 05 HD XL1200R Roadster

Estimated Length: 29 Miles
Scenery:
Take a scenic joyride thru the woods, and maybe stop at a couple of overlooks. The best section of this road starts going out of Calcutta, Ohio. It is a state route that has excellent surface and the turns give this an almost gives a 'tail of the dragon' feel, and in the fall, the foliage is great! There are a couple of overlooks u could pull off at and enjoy the scenery. This route will basically 'bottom out' at Poland, Ohio. Be aware that Poland is notorious for being a speed trap. This is a road that is popular with cruisers and touring bikes and it is a ride not to be missed in the fall!!

Let the curves begin!!!
Road Quality:
Top notch pavement. This road can be ridden as 'hot' as 60 mph; but is also popular with cagers in the fall especially. The curves are mainly of the sweeper variety. I can take them at 60+ mph on a Sportster. I cant remember which towns, but u will eventually run into some railroad tracks. 1 in particular, is a dual set of tracks that will put a hurtin on a bike if hit fast. Take any and all train tracks gently, and u'll save the scoot.

Roadside Amenities:

This road will pass thru a few towns along the way. If followed long enough, u will end up in Poland, Ohio. The small towns u will ride thru include Federicktown, New Middleton, and East Palestine.

Directions:

Written directions:

The directions for this route are easy to follow as all you need to do is start in Calcutta, OH and head north on Rt 170 up to the Poland, OH area.

Good roads and thing to see along that ride. Fredricktown has alot of intresting sites. But you need a pass to get in to see most of it. If your not from this area...not far fron this route is Beaver Creek state park. Look it up and ride in from the south not the north side. The last I was on that road it was pretty bad...for even a truck.

went on this ride today (6/1/08) where rt 170 crosses rt 14 goin south is a blast hitting a lot of awesome turns all the way down to calcutta, but rt 170 north of rt 14 won't be something i will be doing again, just wasn't that great, nice scenery but mostly straight roads and goin into poland i seen 3 cops within a few miles of each other FTP!, but it was def. worth the trip to hit 170 south of 14 to calcutta, i def recommend it!

Very Good road! Best I have seen in eastern OH.
I took a trip from Erie, PA to Wheeling , WV last weekend and specificly road over to OH to check this one out. Good pavement and NICE TURNS (especialy for my CBR) ! I thought I was in heaven... untill I reached West Virginia, then I realized it was just purgatory. I will now be taking this road when I go south through OH ! Thanks!
