Missouri Motorcycle Roads and Trips

Missouri is full of great motorcycle roads as the state is blessed with rolling/hilly topography & vast stretches of unspoiled scenery resulting in a smorgasbord of winding & rambling country roads for motorcycle riders to choose from. Some of the Midwest's best motorcycle rides are found in The Show Me State when you combine this great scenery with a state that has a healthy supply of tourist pleasing attractions. Attractions such as wineries, camping/hiking, quaint villages featuring antiques and artisan crafts, and world class accommodations in locations such as Branson, Kansas City, and St. Louis.

Note: the motorcycle rides below have been divided into two general regions:
          - Eastern Missouri (anything east of Jefferson City)
          - Western Missouri (anything west of Jefferson City)

Eastern Missouri Motorcycle Rides

Hwy 106 - Ellington to Houston (Oct 06)

… travel through Ozark National Scenic Riverways … take a break at Alley Springs - stop in the spring to see the dogwood & redbud trees bloom profusely … the ride will twist and wind along the ridge with numerous curves ranging from tight to sweeping with hills and trees on both sides of the road

HWY 42 between Vienna and Belle (Jun 06)

… everything from open fields to deciduous woods - neat Streams, farms, a small one-lane bridge … smooth pavement, not many houses, and little traffic make this a nice road for a spirited romp

Highway 19; Hermann to Winona (Aug 05)

… I doubt you will find better scenery anywhere in Missouri - especially great once you get south of Salem … lots of twists and turns, and ups and downs

Highway 21 South to Elephant Rock State Park (Jun 05)

… a 2 lane winding road with a relaxed feel … visit Elephant Rock State Park and a few miles further Johnsons' Shut-ins State Park - great place to relax and hike or take a dip in the river

Highway 100; west of Washington (Mar 05)

… a ride through Missouri's rolling farmland and small country towns along the south side of the Missouri River … this route has lots of sweeping turns and hills to offer

From Hannibal MO to Luissiana MO on 79 (Oct 03)

… this ride hugs the banks of the Mississippi river and offers a very nice country setting with park like wooded areas and a couple spectacular vistas of the mighty Mississippi … turns abound - One of the best cycle roads I have EVER traveled!!!

Missouri Wine Country Tour (Oct 02)

… road takes you through the beautiful Missouri River Valley and into the best wine-country in the Midwest … see large limestone bluffs that the river runs next to at points giving you some great photo opportunities … highlight of the trip may be its final stop in Herman - a popular tourist town because of the many bed and breakfasts, museums, and wineries

… some of the most beautiful scenery central MO has to offer … winding roads, fields, trees and the Missouri River are what you have to look forward to … the highlight of the trip would have to be the Touch of Dutch buffet a few miles west of Stover

… good Ozark scenery - bluff overhangs, rivers with rolling hills and hollers ... lots of twist and turns and hills … a must stop is the old Sims General Store - great front porch and rest area - best BBQ you have ever eaten

… the many hills of the Ozarks, as well as the wide variety of vegetation, makes this one ride not to be missed! … Many, Many twists and curves, in what is surely one of the best roads in the Ozarks

Far above average scenery for that state. (Ex. mountain views, lakes, rivers, hills, or forests.)   Below average scenery for that state. (Ex. an area that simply is lacking in overall natural beauty.)

The road quality factor of each route is rated

Outstanding driving conditions.  Plenty of twists, turns & hills; well maintained roads with smooth pavement.   Straight roads over flat land or rough road conditions with
some potholes or driving
hazards such as gravel

A rating of what there is to do off the bike

Plenty of things to do when it's time to pull over.  (Ex. museums, restaurants, pull-outs, historical sites, entertainment etc.)    Little to nothing to do when it's time to pull over.  (Ex. lack of museums, restaurants, pull-outs, historical sites, entertainment etc.)
