Title: 100 Miles from Charleston to Vincennes
State: Illinois
(the route crosses over into Indiana)

Submitted By: Gixxer

Date Submitted: Mar 07

Motorcycle Type: 07 Suzuki GSX-R1000

Motorcycle Road Length: 100 Miles

Motorcycle Road Scenery:
As with most of Illinois, the scenery consists of farmland and few trees. However, as you work your way further south on this route the more the scenery and elevation changes for the better. You'll enjoy it!

Motorcycle Road Quality:

The road surface along the entire route is good with very few potholes or other hazards. Most of the corners provide great visibility. This area is definitely farm country so be alert to slow moving vehicles and farm implements. If you like to keep your wrist in it be careful, a tractor can really ruin your day. Also, most of the local constabulary aren't overly fond of people burning up their roads on either two or four wheels.

Motorcycle Roadside Amenities:
The route passes through several towns of moderate to small size providing food, fuel and other distractions for the tired rider. You'll also have a chance to check out the childhood cabing/home of President Lincoln if you visit the Lincoln Log Cabin State park (see directions below). Vincennes, Indiana is a city that dates back to the Revolutionary War. Stop and see the George Rogers Clark Memorial as well as Grouseland, the home of President William Henry Harrison and his family from 1803 - 1812. Vincennes also has many other historic sites worth visiting. There are several good restaurants in Vincennes and I heartily recommend Montana Mike's.

Directions:

Written directions:

- Starting from the parking lot of Jimmy Johns at 4th Street and Lincoln Avenue in Charleston head south on 4th Street.

- Follow 4th Street out of town where it's referred to as Lincoln Highway Road until you get to East County Road 80.

- Turn west onto East County Road 80, a beautiful banked right hand sweeper. (Note: if you want to see the Lincoln Log Cabin State park (former home of President Lincoln) you would pass up the turn for East Country Road 80 and continue for about a mile.). Follow County Road 80 for a few twisty miles until you come to County Road 1200E.

- Take a left (head south) on County Road 1200E. Follow the 1200E south for about 8 miles and you will reach Toledo and look for Rt 121.

- Take a left onto Rt 121 (head east) and follow 121 around the Toledo square then on down to Greenup and look for Rt 130.

- Take a right (head south) on Rt 130 for about 40 miles down to where it meets US 50 on the south side of Olney.

- Take a left (head east) on US 50 all the way to Vincennes. Suggest you gas up in Olney as the fuel stops are few until Vincennes.
