Written Directions

Turn North on Guardsman Pass Rd near Brighton Ski Resort. Follow it up and over the mountains until you come to a fork in the road. Left will take you to Park City, while right will continue the route on Pine Canyon Dr. The route ends in Midway.

Scenery

The route is a beautiful mountain road. At the beginning in Big Cottonwood Canyon, it is a winding road that climbs the canyon wall, with several switchbacks and excellent views. On top, it follows the long hills and gentle curves of the mountains, giving you long areas of sun and open grassland. When you turn off Guardsmans Way onto Pine Canyon Rd., it enters an Aspen forest, winding its way down the other side of the mountain and into Midway.

Drive Enjoyment

The road is paved and well maintained until you reach the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon. Beyond that point, it rarely receives maintenance. Beware of potholes.

Tourism Opportunities

There are no amenities on the road. However, you are rarely more than a few miles from any town.

This is all new pavement with some of the most extreme corners I have yet to ride. There are non stop turns all the way down the hill. Careful though as if you go off a few that do not have barriers, your riding days are done. Docked 2 stars as there is very high car traffic that often times will spew gravel and large stones on the corners.

It is best to make a pass at slow speeds to verify how busy it is and also to see if you need to brush off and corners.

Beautiful ride for the fall! Cut it a little short due to snow and went to park city instead of Brighton

Honestly, Big Cottonwood Canyon is one of my favorite rides in all of Utah (When there's not a lot of traffic). It's got the scenic curves that you'd expect from a canyon pass, except not really any of them are so tight that you have to slow all the way down to make it and avoid oncoming traffic. Plus, they just barely finished repaving the top half. So, now it's smooth as butter.
