Written Directions

Scenic route from Lafayette to Delphi via Battle Ground. Start near the Purdue campus at State St. and River Rd. Take River Rd. north for about 5mi, until you see a sign on the right for Battleground. Turn right on Burnetts Rd. for a short jog over to 9th street, and then turn left on 9th street. After about 2mi, you should reach Battle Ground. Cross the railroad tracks and continue straight onto main street. After leaving Battle Ground and passing the country club (2.2mi), take a left onto Tyler Rd. After the tree tunnel (5.3mi), turn right on country Rd. 150, which will turn into Bicycle Bridge Rd. This will take you to Delphi. If you're going back to Lafayette, my favorite way back from Delphi is through Americus via Old State Rd. 25.

Scenery

The scenery around the Wabash river is beautiful, if you can avoid the cornfields. This route follows the general path of the Wabash, but avoids most of the corn. The roads on this route are the twistiest I've found around Lafayette, and there are lots of trees. Battle Ground and Delphi are both scenic, historic rural communities, which are worth exploring on their own. The best part of the route is Tyler Rd -- it's twisty, wooded, well-paved, and relatively undeveloped.

Drive Enjoyment

Most of the roads are fine. Bicycle Bridge Rd. could use some repairs near the intersection with Tyler Rd., but there is nothing too problematic.

Tourism Opportunities

The only gas station near this route is near I-65, west of Battle ground. Fill up before you leave! The park at Battle Ground has a small visitor center and some beautiful woods you can take an easy hike through.

On Sunday 8/13/17 we rode this trip and it was a great ride. We started our trip on the west side of Logansport and turned onto Georgetown Road off of U.S. 24. We rode it along the river to Georgetown then turned right and rode to Lockport Road, turned left at the Y and rode it down to Towpath Road
through Lockport to Carrolton Road. Carrolton Road takes you into Delphi. At Franklin Street take a right and outside of town it turns into Bicycle Bridge Road. At the T road, we took a left onto Tyler Rd. to Pretty Prairie Rd. into Battle Grounds.
Then followed the route to Green Hill. Before you get into Green Hill turn left on 1125E down to Independence Rd all the way thru Independence to St. Rd. 55 and turn left to U.S. 41 turn left for a quarter mile and turn right onto S. River Rd.. Take that into Williamsport to the stop sign and turn right. When the road turns to the right and it crosses the creek, turn right to Indiana's Highest Water Falls. It doesn't always flow, but a great place to hike around.

In Delphi there are places to eat and gas stations. Not a long ride but a lot of fun!
