Written Directions

Route 17 runs parallel to the east of U.S. 27 (note: Route 17 just south of Frostproof, FL has the name the "S. Scenic Highway" and north of Frostproof it becomes the "N. Scenic Highway" for a while). Start this route in Sebring, FL and just take Route 17 north all the way until you make it up to the route's end point in Loughman, FL (just about a mile south of I-4).

From there you can go or you can swing east to Kissimmee , Fla or go west on Hwy 532 (north of Loughman) and get on I-4.

Scenery

Going north or south the rider will see very rural scenery , farms and orchards(a ride in the spring rewards the nose with the smell of orange blossoms),lakes on the side roads and a few small towns.

Road Quality

this ride follows the ridge in the center of the state with hills and long sweeping curves.The only surprise might be a slow moving farm truck other than that the roads are in good shape.

Roadside Amenities

On this route there are many places to eat plus U.S. 27 is just a few miles to the west. There are endless places to stay , a state park in Sebring and all that Kissimmee has to offer.

Comment: IMO. a nicer place to start would be in Lake Placid, FL. ("Town of Murals) Go North on US-27 for a short distance and then pick up County Rd-17 (right turn). Follow CR-17 to Left on US-98 to Right on CR-17 to Left on CR- 623 (Airport Rd) and follow into Sebring. FL (you will still be on CR-17 (Kenilworth Blvd). Continue West and turn Right on Lakeview Drive (ST-17) then bear right onto Ridgewood Rd (ST-17) Continue until nearing Avon Park then take a Right on CR-17. Take a Right on CR-627. Continue to Right turn on Wilson Rd. This will take you around scenic Lake Reedy. At the end of Reedy Lake Drive take a Left on RT-630 into Frostproof, picking up ST-17 into Lake Wales. You might like to take a look there, at "Spook Hill". Personally, I would pick the Town of Dundee to turn around for the return trip to Lake Placid. Riders coming from the Orlando-Kissimmee area might want to try this ride from the Northern end.
