- Trip Toolbox
Start in Darby and head south on Hwy 93 toward the Idaho border. Once you start the climb up to the top of Last Trail Pass you will than turn left on to Hwy 43 and climb up to the top of Chief Joseph Pass. On the down word ride you will go through the northern part of the Big Hole Valley where you will drive through Wisdom and then on to Wise River and then end up at Divide when it joins I15. Turn north and drive into Butte your finish point.
You will start out in a small western town and ride through the mountains on your way to the top of the Pass. When you enter the Big Hole Valley you will get to see a lot of wildlife along the way. There is a famous Indian Battle field just about 15 miles from the top of the Pass with a very good visitor center. In the summer there is a Pow Wow there. Then as you continue on your ride through the valley you will follow the river all of the way to Divide and quite possibly see Moose as well. Once in Butte you will get the opportunity to visit a lot of mining historical sites.
Hwy 93 and Hwy 43 are well maintained. There are plenty of mountain vistas and winding roads along the water. There are numerous pullouts to view wildlife or just take a break. Remember to wave as the people along the way are very friendly.
You will have the opportunity to eat at a couple of different cafes while in Wisdom and get fuel there. Other than that Wisdom is the only place to do this other than at the end of the run.
Remember to bring along some floss picks because you will really enjoy this ride. Real riders understand the last comment.
