Written Directions

The Road is near Bastrop, Texas. Bastrop State Park Road begins at the main entrance to the Park off of Tx Hwy 21. The road continues through the park into another state park called Buescher State Park. The road ends at Tx Hwy 153.

Scenery

This route winds and snakes through the beautiful area that is the blending of East Texas and the Texas Hill Country. Lots of old growth Pines and Oaks hug the road closely forming a canopy to ride under. Fishing lakes and campsites are along the route with a couple of 'look-out' areas to take in the hill and valley views.

Road Quality

This road is the definition of 'twisties.' I've only rode it on a Cruiser but can't help but thinking how challenging it would be on a Sport Bike. The road is well maintained and smooth with a few cattle guards. It is worth turning around and getting a different perspective from going the other direction. I think of the road as "Copperhead Snake Road" because of the constant winding.

Roadside Amenities

At the entrance to this road near Bastrop is the RoadHouse Grill. Great food. Pretty waitresses. Gas is available two miles east of the main park entrance. The city of Bastrop is a few miles East with restaurants, motels and fuel.

Comment: I rode the Buescher State Park portion today. The 2 parks are currently separated due to a closed off section from the wildfires. You're directed back to 71 via Cottletown Road. What I saw made for a very beautiful ride. I'm not sure how much of this course is closed off until I can ride the Bastrop Park portion and see where it's blocked from that side.

Comment: This is absolutely one of my favorite roads to ride. Beautiful scenery of tall pine trees. Very twisty... you can only go about 30-35 mph. The only problem is that it's too short!
