Written Directions

Start at the town center in Williamsburg, MA on Route 9N. Follow route 9 approximately 10 to Route 5 North.Route 10. Make a left on Route 5/Route 10 and follow for 30 miles - at which point you'll cross into Vermont. Continue to follow Route 5 into Bellows Falls, you'ss see Canal St on the right after about 1/2 mile. Let Sharon feed you and regal you of stories about the good old biking days.

Scenery

This route will take you through the mountains, hills and farm regions of northwestern Masschusets to southern Vermont.

Except for a few miles through Brattleboro, VT, the road passes through quintessential New England towns and farm land. Fall foilage shows everything in its best splendor.

Road Quality

Lots of those tar squiggly things and cracked-road drops-offs but overall not all bad, not all good. Some of the road had recently been repaved. That made it a joy to ride.

Roadside Amenities

A must do for this trip is a stop at the Putney General Store in Putney Vermont. This is an old time store with wooden floors, collectible Vermont stuff from days gone by and a decent choice of movies to rent.

No trip would be complete without a meal at Boccelli's on the Canal in Bellows Falls, Vt. The owner, Sharon Boccelli, is big robust, boisterous woman with a heart of gold and hands that prepare the most extraordinary meals - the food is excellent. Sharon and her partner Ingrid are both bikers, so you will find Boccelli's to be very biker friendly. If you are looking for shopping, park your bike and jump in your cage and hit the mall.
