Written Directions

From Hutchinson go East on US-50 to Newton. Take the 1st Street exit off of I-135 north and head East to Cassoday. Turn North on K-177 out of Cassoday to Cottonwood Falls. Continue North on K-177 through Council Grove. Approximately 20 miles north of Council Grove K-177 intersects with K-4. Turn East on K-4. Stay on K-4 all the way to I-70. Take I-70 East and get of at exit 361A (1st Ave). Turn right on SW Polk St, Turn Left on SW 3rd, Turn right onto Topeka Blvd. Stay on Topeka Blvd through town (approx 11 miles) then merge onto US-75 south. Turn West on I-35 south then take exit 127A to US-50. Remain on US-50 all the way back to Hutchinson.

Scenery

Great variety of scenery everything from flat open prairie to large hills and curves. Council Grove has tons of historic places to stop and see. You will also go by the Kansas Capitol building.

Road Quality

Good paved roads the whole way. They were doing some work between Newton and Cassoday but the road was still good. Great curves on K-4.

Roadside Amenities

Plenty of places for fuel and food. Great little BBQ place on K-4 by Wabaunsee Lake. You may want to take camping gear and do a 2 day trip out of it. There are lots of lakes and state parks along the route.
