Written Directions

You can either start this route in Kaukauna (which is just a few miles north of Appleton) and head north to De Pere (which is on the south side of Green Bay) or you can do the opposite and start in De Pere and head south to Kaukauna. My directions are described for the drive to start in Kaukauna and end in De Pere. In Kaukauna, get on county road Z and take it through town to the baseball diamonds and swimming pool and at this point you switch to county road ZZ (county road ZZ will split off to the left from county road Z). Follow ZZ the whole way through Wrightstown until you reach county road PP. Take a left onto PP north and this will bring you into south De Pere.

Scenery

Great scenery along the Fox River!!! Ride along side of the river and pass through quaint Wrightstown. Wisconsin at it's best! You'll see many of our hard working bovine sisters munching on grass along the way.

Road Quality

Road quality is consistent. Watch out in spring, there is many corners where someone in there cage cut it too sharp and kicked out a bunch of gravel on this river hugging route. A few miles north of Wrightstown there is a bad spot where the river has eroded much of the supporting soil under the road and the pavement has buckled a bit. Overall not bad though. Just watch for gravel in corners that has been thrown out by cars. I recommend that you take caution your first trip up the "double-Z" (county road ZZ) to scope out potential hazards.

Roadside Amenities

There are a few nice parks that you can stop at along the way. Stop and get a burger in Wrightstown. There is a great tavern on the northeast corner of ZZ and 96. I can't remember the name of it, but I think it may be called Keeter's Pub. You can't miss it. There usually is a bunch of bikes parked in front of it. If you're a morning traveler there is a great place at the end of the road in South De Pere called the Chef's Hat. They've got great coffee and fresh baked goods. If traveling north into Green bay it will be on your left hand side on City PP in De Pere.

Comment: Rider beware, cops cherry pick this route, usually sit on the edge of Wrightsown on either side of the river. Road is in decent shape, hard to maintain 45 mph speed limit.

Comment: Road is in adequate shape and scenery is very nice; overall, it's a nice way to get to Green Bay from points south, but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to ride it.

Comment: Hello, to all my touring friends. I would advise staying away from the "double Z" route into Wrightstown. Even though it is beautiful, there has not been any maintenance done on the road in years. The speed of the traffic is to high, there are numerous bicycles, walkers and wildlife that frequent the roadway. If you must ride, please keep your speed down and your eye out for random obstructions to the roadway!!!! Happy riding!
