Written Directions

We started our route in Newport/Jamestown, Rhode Island. Route 138 West to RT 1 North (You can also take RT 1A through Wickford here) Pick up RT 102 North. Turn Left onto RT-3. Right onto RT 165 (entering CT). Right onto RT 49. Right onto 14A (Sterling & Oneco, CT). Right onto RT 117 (into RI). Follow RT 117 to the intersection of RT 102 South...follow RT 102 back to Route 1A through Wickford and starting point.

Scenery

Great for foliage touring, and farm country site seeing. I would give this route a 10 out of 10 for scenic routes! It passes right through Beach Pond State Park and Arcadia State Park. You will pass by and see lots of lakes and other bodies of water in the area such as Boone Lake, Beach Pond, and Carbuncle Pond and meander around some hills such as Pine Hill, Raccoon Hill, Hammitt Hill, and Bald Hill.

Road Quality

Good quality back country roads, good over all mix- some turns and curves, and some straights ... over all not too twisty.

Roadside Amenities

Enough rest stops and restaurants to get you by but the focus here is a a very scenic route, well worth it!

Comment: Great ride - I live in Westerly so I went North on Route 3 through Ashaway up to Route 138 West until it met up with Route 165 and 49 in Connecticut. After that I followed this route until reaching Route 3 again in Exeter, which I then followed back to Westerly. Route 49 North up to Sterling is a fantastic ride ... Route 102 south through Western Coventry and West Greenwich is a bit bland (mostly straight), but still fun. All in all, a great ride for a summer Sunday.
