Motorcycle Road Length: 143 Miles

Written Directions

We began our route on NC 55-S at High House Road in Cary, NC (southwest side of Raleigh). We set out South on 55 through Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Angier, to Dunn. We picked up NC50-S at Newton Grove and followed that through to Holly Ridge. At Holly Ridge, take US 17-S through Wilmington to US421-N. This stretch had very few services on it for some time (gas up in Wilmington).

Scenery

Rural farmlands on the trip to the North Carolina coast. Small towns show some real character of Eastern NC.

Road Quality

Not a great deal of traffic. The route is mostly back roads with lots of twists but easy to follow. Surface is generally in very good shape.

Roadside Amenities

Gasoline stations are not overly abundant, but are available if you do some planning. Lots of travel through smaller towns that have places to stop, gas up, stretch your legs, etc... The stretch on 421 out of Wilmington was pretty bare for a long while (40 mi), be prepared.

Comment: Cool idea. I drive the car to the Topsail Beach area all the time. Hadn't thought much about taking back roads on the bike, but sounds like a great ride.

Comment: We started in Fayetteville and took back roads to the start in Cary and ripped it we had 7 bikes all sport bikes and plenty of people got their all time top speeds during the ride. Even if you dont go blasting like we did down the roads it still rocked good corners....one road dissappointed though it was a quick turnoff on a dirt road for like half a block but the ride was great.
