Written Directions

Start in Rockton IL on Hwy Rte 75 West. Past the town of Dakota turn right onto Cedarville Rd. Go west through Cedarville to Lena. At stop sign turn right onto Stage Coach Trail road go west following Stage Coach Trail Signs through Lena. You will go through some small communities as well as Warren and Apple River. Just about a 1/4 mile west of Apple River turn left (south) onto Scout Camp Road (excellent curves and hills)this will take you to US Hwy 20 in Woodbine IL. Turn right (west) onto US Hwy 20 in about 3 miles or so you will start going up hill, there will be a slow lane on the right, stay in thr left lane and you will see a small sign on the right that reads "Terrapin Ridge" just past that you will see a yellow road sign for Derinda Road to the left. Take this road, enjoy the hills, curves and scenery, when you cross into the next county the road name changes to "Scenic Ridge Road" keep following this into Savanna Illinois. We also go home on these same roads.

Scenery

On this route you will become one with the landscape. Rolling hills, valleys and plenty of trees will make you forget the stresses of your daily routine.

Road Quality

Get Ready for some fun on this route. You'll find more twists, curves and hills than most of the roads I have been on in this state. The route however gets a little rough in areas along the way and towards the end so you'll need to slow it down at times. Overall the pavement is in good shape and some sections have been patched. Watch for gravel in some of the curves though.

Comment: I would have given a higher rating, but I can't because there a few areas of bumpy patched road and you will need to watch out for sand &/or gravel that gets washed onto the road in the low land areas. But I still take this route when going to Savanna!

Comment: The ammenities are the Iron Horse Museum downtown, Poopies south of town on Hwy 84 as well as other decent places to get a bite to eat and you can take a nice drive through the Mississippi Palisades Park north of Savanna
