Written Directions

Your ride starts in Lafayette, GA. From there take Georgia Route 93 west toward Lookout Mountain. Stay on 193 heading west until it meets GA Route 136 (in Cooper Heights, GA). Now take a left (go west) on Route 136 for about 8 miles and look for the signs to Cloudland Canyon State Park. Turn right on to Cloudland Canyon Rd and head into the park.

Scenery

Elevates from the valley to the top of Lookout Mt. Excellent valley views. Cloudland Canyon is a Georgia State Park with Great long distance views. The setting on Lookout Mountain has fascinating historical significance as it is was a vital & significant high ground in the Civil War and near where "the worst defeat of any Army in the history of the United States (at Chickamauga)" took place.

Road Quality

The road has nice two lane roads usually with good surfaces.

Roadside Amenities

Not too much to do along the way yet there are small country stores along the way. The end point and destination, Cloudland Canyon State Park offers great outdoor activity choices.

Comment: The scenery is a bit choppy, with occasional "glorious vistas" but generally lightly developed farm and residential land on the sides of the road.

Road surfaces are good with just enough turns for an easy Sunday afternoon ride.

The roads in the nearby valleys have beautiful fall color views of Lookout Mountain and the other nearby mountains and ridges. It's worth traveling down those side roads just for the scenery. The side roads to the south are probably a bit better than the side roads to the north.
