This route has some of the best scenery and driving roads in Hunterdon county.

I recommend you start your ride at the Oldwick General Store. It's located at 57 Main Street, Oldwick, NJ 08858. (908-439-2642.) There is plenty of parking in the back. This is a landmark building and a great place to grab coffee, breakfast or lunch before your ride.

Turn left out of the General Store onto Main Street, which is also known as County Rd 517/Old Turnpike Rd. Follow 517N up the mountain. About 3 miles later you will traverse the "S" curves. Please be careful when you do, these are a series of blind curves with no shoulder. Once cleared, follow straight until your first traffic light. At the light make a left onto Fairmount Road West. Follow straight and Fairmount will turn into Academy Street which turns into Main Street. (When it does you will be in the town of Califon. Califon is a sweet hamlet and home to Rambo's General Store, BEX café, and Shannon's Fly Fishing Tackle Shop.) Cross over the bridge and follow straight. Turn right onto 513N/High Bridge-Califon Rd. (There is an Exxon Station directly across from the stop sign.) Make your first left onto Sliker Rd. Follow Sliker for 1.9 miles and turn left onto Pond Lane for 45 seconds, followed by a slight left onto Anthony Road for 1 minute. Make your first right onto Mt Lebanon Road and continue onto Point Mountain Road. Turn left onto County Rd 645/Musconetcong River Rd. 8 miles later the Lebanon Township Museum, 57 Musconetcong River Rd, Hampton, NJ 08827 ýwill be on your right.

As you enter the village of Old wick, you will enjoy 19th century farm houses and charming main street. As you leave Oldwick, the valley road opens up to a sweeping view of the mountain and farm land. Follow the rolling hill up the newly paved road through the "S" curves. As you enter Califon, you will cross the south branch of the Raritan River and home to Shannon's Fly Fishing Shop. The roads are well maintained in Tewksbury Township. Once on Sliker road, the road conditions change to a rough stone/oil texture. While there are sweeping curves and beautiful scenery throughout, be careful with potholes and crumbly road edges. It's not terrible conditions, just less than ideal. As you enter County road 645/Musconetcong River road, you will see the river on your right. This 8 mile stretch has sweeping curves, inclines and declines.

Road Quality

The roads in Tewksbury Township are newly paved and in good order. As you ride on Sliker and Anthony roads, the pavement is a bit scared with potholes and crumbly edges.

Roadside Amenities

For eatery's there's the General Store in Oldwick, Rambo's General Store or Bex Café in Califon. There is great fly fishing on the south branch of the Raritan river in Califon or on the Musconetcong river in Lebanon. In Oldwick there is an antique shop, a Spa and the Magic Shop. In Califon, there is a lovely book shop, consignment store, framing and handmade artisan jewelry shop. Don't miss the Lebanon Museum!

Additional Info

While in Oldwick and Califon, please stay below the posted speed limit. The limits rapidly change from 40 to 25 MPH.

Absolutely a beautiful ride. Hard to keep your eyes on the road. Good roads but watch speed, especially leading into, and leaving Califon (short for Cailifornia). Stay at or below posted speed.

A nice short ride through some NJ farms and smaller towns. Nice winding roads up and down some small mountains/hills. Overall this is a great short ride but there is one stretch where the road gets a bit janky with a lot of potholes that have been filled very poorly and unevenly. The first 10 miles are great newly paved roads followed by about 5 miles of the shaky stuff. The final 5 is good just low speed limit. Overall this is a nice ride. Unfortunately for me, I happened to go o a Saturday afternoon in mid-July with 90-degree weather so there were a lot of cars slowing things down in addition to many horse trailers and landscape trucks. I'll hit this one again on an early Sunday morning in September.
