Written Directions

The route is a loop so you can start from anywhere. I personally start in Grahamsville, NY which is the furthest south point on the route (Route 55 & Route 42). If you start there is a little deli that has breakfast/lunch/dinner available. There is also a gas station in Neversink if a fill up is necessary called Cannie D's (6 miles west on Route 55).

Scenery

This route gives you a great selection of views throughout the Catskill Mountains. You pass beautiful reservoirs go through several small country towns and when in Oneonta, NY you should stop at Brooks House of Bar-B-Q's for some of the best bbq you've ever had. To get there you just have to take a right onto Main street off of route 23.

Road Quality

The road quality ranges from a little rough to freshly paved. The roughest roads are when you are traveling from Grahamsville to Shokan.

Roadside Amenities

Don't chance it on your fuel level, gas station are few and far between. There are some in the following towns the last time I rode through: Neversink (off the designated roads a little) Boiceville, Hunter, Oneonta, Walton, Livingston Manor.

You should stop at Brooks House of Bar-B-Q's for some of the best bbq you've ever had. To get there you just have to take a right onto Main street off of route 23, I always plan to be there around lunch time :).

I have been on these roads for years. You outlined a great day trip. I especially like Peekamoose Road through Sundown. If I am short on time I cut back to the Rondout Reservoir over Big Indian Co. Rt. 47.
