Written Directions

Salmon Falls Road starts in the town of Pilot Hill, CA (which is about 70 miles northeast of Sacramento, CA). Take Salmon Falls Road southwest out of town and stay on it as it twists and turns taking you southwest until it intersects with Green Valley Road. At this point Salmon Falls Road is done and changes names to El Dorado Hills Blvd. At this point you can continue strait to Hwy 50 (Clarksville, CA) or turn around back to Hwy 49.

Scenery

Its mostly rolling hills with ranch like properties. Also pass a section of the American River and you'll be able to see Folsom Lake as you drive through a section of the state recreational area.

Road Quality

Road quality is pretty good, some spots have a little bit of debris on the edge of the road. Watch out for the occasional bicyclist who use that road as well. Very Popular with the sport bike crowd in the Sacramento area. First 1/3 of the road from Pilot Hill/Hwy 49 to Eldorado Hills is somewhat technical with lots of little ups and downs which will make for a wheelie, and very tight turns with blind comers. the rest of it is also twisty but allows for higher speeds and some knee dragging.

Note: This road is very popular with sport bikes, so if your gonna take easy let them by when they get behind you, thanks :) .

Roadside Amenities

There are no gas stations or restaurants on the road but there are both at the start and end of the road. Its 12 miles so take it both ways a few times and have some fun. Also, along this route you'll pass by Folsom Lake State Recreation Area and may want to check that out.

Start this route from El Dorado hills blvd and Greenvalley road. Once you top out in Pilot Hill you've got Auburn, Foresthill and the Western Sierra Slopeto get lost in. There is no end to the twisties and Canyon to explore. I've been riding this area for years and never get bored connecting different routes. Mid week Mid day is best to stay clear of the weekend warriors.

Second time down this road on my bike. Fun. On 3/30/14 the roads were a little wet from previous days rain and there was some gravel and mud across the road in a few spots after blind corners. Also be aware of taking the hairpin 15mph turn as the corner has a lot of pushed asphalt waves and bumps from cars taking the corner too hot during the hot summer months and the pavement was soft causing irregular road surfaces. It has caused a few experienced riders to go down. Be careful. Nice views when everything is green.
